Good morning folks. Welcome to another edition of Borderless. We’ve got quite an action-packed newsletter for you this month. As usual, we have news about a little of this and a little dash of that, stories that you may be familiar with, and some that might have flown under the radar. Regardless, we’re sure you’re bound to enjoy this one.
🌴💰 Dems To Kamala:We’ve Got Your Back
Democratic donors are rallying unequivocally behind Vice President Kamala Harris as she gears up for the 2024 presidential race.
As the 2024 US Elections gears up for its last leg, President Biden has announced he will not be seeking re-election. Instead his VP Kamala Harris, has been chosen as the Democratic candidate to lead the party to victory. While the last minute switcheroo left most democrats sweating, neutral parties swear they haven’t enjoyed a political drama as intense, since Netflix released House of Cards.
Although the Vice President, started off shaky, trailing behind former President Trump by six poll points, according most news reports, VP Harris now leads Trump in 4 key battleground states.
🗽🦅Trump Pushes For ‘Made In America’, promising an end to outsourcing jobs
Former President Donald Trump has promised to slam the brakes on outsourcing, if he gets a second shot at being president. Reversing the tide of outsourcing and bringing back manufacturing jobs to America, has become one of the twenty prioritise for his campaign and the bedrock to making America great again!
However, critics argue that while the sentiment might tickle a few patriotic bellies, in practice untangling the mangled knots of global supply chains might be more complex than what the former president suggests.

🗳️🫖 Labour Triumphs Amid Economic Chaos: Britain, Hold Onto Your Teacups!
On the other side of the pond, or more accurately, the English channel, Britain just bid goodbye to the conservative party and welcomed a new Labour PM – Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The labour party, to nobody’s utter bewilderment, has decimated the ailing conservatives by winning 410 out of 630 available seats in the parliament. After Liz Truss’ shortest spell in Britain’s history as PM and Rishi Sunak’s dropping image, it comes as no surprise that the Brits have chosen a change of scenery after 14 years of conservative rule.
Despite the landslide win, Labor is still holding tightly onto their teacups as they brace for runway inflation, fixing the NHS and a stagnating economy.
🔥😱 Microsoft & Crowdstrike Gifts Office Workers Of The World A Day Off
On July 19th office workers around the world celebrated a day off from work when a security update from Microsoft partner Crowdstrike caused computers around the world to crash. In what seems to be the biggest tech outage in the history of history, an update by Crowdstrike caused major server crashes, and stopped computers from turning on. More than 8.5 billion devices took the hit across hospitals, media, banks, public transit, airlines and others causing flights to be grounded, bank transactions delayed and a plethora of other chaotic shenanigans
As the world regains composure, Crowdstrike is taking all the right steps to make things right. Not by compensating the world for its collective losses, but offering select clients a $10 Ubereats gift card.
📋🤝 Hybrid Work: New Data Suggests Online Meetings Here to Stay
It’s official. With the possible exception of our Product Manager Kyle, everybody hates meeting. Recent studies by none other than Microsoft, suggests that 68% of workers feel meetings hinder productivity by interrupting focus time and wasting valuable work hours.
Regardless, new study suggests meetings are here to stay even though face-to-face might be replaced by more virtual meetings. Since the pandemic opened up the pandora’s box for most workers to conduct meetings in their slacks, virtual meetings still top as the most preferred way to meet (averaging with 10.3 meetings per week) even with people working in the same physical office.
Other notable findings of the study finds that non-participation rates in meetings are also increasing (from 4.8% in 2022 to 7.2% in 2023) and those who keep their cameras on during meetings might also be less likely to switch jobs.
💼 📉 Great Resignation 2.0: Workforce Woes Resurface Amid Stagnant Wages
A new wave of resignation rivalling the Great Resignation of 2023 may be on the horizon as European workers share their discontent. Findings from PwC’s latest Hope and Fears survey involving over 3,000 European workers reveals that 46% of participants seek a new workplace where they can complain about their lack of free time and inadequate salaries, but this time in a new setting.
The survey also reveals that 58% respondents believe their salaries have not kept pace with inflation fuelling the foray into job sites seeking pastures anew.
🛍️💎 Amazon Dons Fancy Pants: Seeks Tie-Ups with Luxury Department Stores
Thanks to amazon, you can now buy your Luxury bags at the same place where you buy your dog food. America’s largest department store is now teaming up with luxury stores such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue to provide customers with the option to buy high-end luxury fashion items such as bags, shoes, and clothing.
It’s worth noting, there might still be some time until you find your favorite luxury swag with your amazon prime membership. The deal is likely to draw the attention of federal antitrust regulators before we get to see Gucci on Amazon’s black friday offerings.
🚫 💻 Europe Puts Big Tech on the Naughty List
Europe but more specifically France is putting Nvidia under the microscope, charging the AI giant with antitrust infringements.
However, Nvidia is not the only bad actor being sent to the corner, as Apple, Microsoft, and Meta might also be guilty of violating EU’s new digital competition law. As a result, companies could face a hefty fine of 10% of its global revenue or more.
While things are calmer here in the US, it may only be a matter of time until they see similar scrutiny in their home grounds. Reports of the DOJ and FTC teaming up to take on big tech has been circulating the news and it could quickly see things change for the worse for techies.
Still here? Well thank you benevolent reader. It’s people like you that makes it worthwhile to put our hearts into bringing Borderless to your inbox every month. Let us know what you want to read about more in upcoming issues, and what stories bore you to death. Until next time, Ciao!
