Dylan Schiemann is the co-founder of Living Spec. He was also the co-creator of Dojo Toolkit, the predecessor to jQuery and React.
Living Spec is a collaboration platform for product teams. This low-friction system lets teams iterate on their ideas from early, messy notes to fully-fledged specifications defining what they’re building or why they’re building it.
Dylan, CEO of Living Spec, delegates tasks, including email management and social outreach, to his Wing Assistant to accelerate growth and free up time for higher-level work.
Before Dylan started with Wing, he did all his personal tasks himself. Often, that meant those tasks were not done. This included maintaining his personal network–things like writing emails and connecting with colleagues.
Dylan points out that, with his Wing Assistant (Clarissa), they reached out to roughly 3,000 of his contacts that hadn’t been touched in a long time: “Clarissa and I did it at a pace where we reached out to about 10 to 20 per day. That way, when they responded, I actually had time to respond back to them.”

Clarissa is an experienced advanced generalist who excels at email management, ClickUp task management, and outreach to leads and network connections.
Besides working as a virtual assistant for several clients before joining Dylan at Living Spec, Clarissa also worked as a tutor for English as a foreign language. Her experience with tools such as Canva, Wix, or Asana makes her a valuable asset beyond general tasks, and Dylan can leverage her talents in various areas of his business.
Excel, Scale, Repeat
Dylan likes to delegate multiple types of tasks to Clarissa. For example, he’d have her work on social outreach to support sales, email marketing, and personal network administration.
And he feels comfortable delegating new types of tasks on an adhoc basis as needed. For example, he asked Clarissa to conduct competitive research and produce a report listing 100 products in their industry. With some guidance, Clarissa was able to produce a comprehensive report that proved very useful for Living Spec’s product, sales and marketing teams.
‘Social listening’ is another regular task for Clarissa, where she uses a list of provided keywords to follow and engage with conversations on related topics. Dylan uses “Wink”, Wing’s inhouse screen recording software, to elaborate on processes and create tutorial videos for Clarissa whenever needed.
And it does not end there.
Outcome
Dylan realized the value of having an assistant from the first week onward. He saw user growth pick up from a 20% month-over-month growth rate to 30% soon after he started doubling down on personalized outreach. Working with Clarissa enabled him to streamline and run the process on autopilot.
